We discussed this on our digging deeper course yesterday. God says through Ezekeial: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36 v26).
Just as popcorn is hard and tasteless until heat is applied, so when the Father and Son apply the Spirit to our hearts, they lose their hardness towards him and his ways and become soft and tasty, willingly trusting and loving God, and so doing good in his name.
So conversion is a popcorn moment, the moment of new birth, of inner renewal that ensures that on hearing the gospel we will respond warmly and believe. Give God thanks today for this marvellous grace.
