A prayer for marriage

One of the difficulties in conducting weddings in an increasingly secular society is how to ensure they are truly Christian. It is important for couples to:

1. be able to express an understanding of Christian marriage
2. express what may be a genuine fledling faith, nurtured in their marriage prep
3. seek forgiveness what they may accept has been an ungodly start to their relationship
4. but without giving them false assurance

Here's my attempt at a prayer to be said before the marriage itself. It attempts to reflect the idea of God bringing Eve to Adam for the key purposes of marriage in Genesis 2 as understood through Christ: imaging God by reflecting his character in caring for his world and raising children to that end, whilst honouring his Son.

Almighty God,
we thank you for bringing us together
to serve you as one
in honouring Jesus Christ
caring for your world
and raising any children to do the same.
We offer you our souls and bodies,
our thoughts and words and deeds.
We are sorry for the sins of our past.
Grant us a sincere faith,
that we may receive your forgiveness,
and be renewed into your image,
so that our love may continue to flourish,
and your will for our marriage be fulfilled,
through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.
